Postponement of May 21 Meeting to Discuss Investing in Possible LSC Property Acquisition

There is a postponement of the May 21 meeting to discuss investing in possible LSC property acquisition. A new date will be announced soon. Sorry for any inconvenience. There is still information that needs to be gathered before this meeting can be held.

Moody Takes Two

Mike Moody, with Gary Marx and Helio Vogel crewing, scored two first place finishes and a second in Lightning racing today (Sunday, May 18). Eight boats participated. George Siegle, with Ann Siegle and Laura Harvey as crew, had the other first place finish as well as a second and third.

Lori Katz and Lisa Winters, sailing with skipper Terry Kleiman, started slowly - but kept improving and ended up with a fourth place finish in the last race. Larry Koster, sailing "Shibumi" with Bob Brook and Paul Caterino, had a solid day with fifth, fourth and sixth place finishes.

Merick Hurlbutt sailed with last minute crew Julie Pierce and Dan Sutkovs. Although they were the "pickle" boat today, Merrick had good starts and improvements are beginning to show through. "Oh m" regulars Ron Marshall, Jane Marshall and Bob Hill had finishes of fourth, fifth and seventh.

"Wind Dancer" crew Stacey Kotecki, Gil Chesbro and Pat Dolan continue to be solid with a second and two thirds. Starts were the big problem today according to skipper Dolan. Don Baron was excited about a fifth place finish after placing seventh in the first two races. Son David Baron and Tom Dietz crewed for Don.

Detailed results and standings soon at www.lansingsailing.org.

Laser and Sunfish Sailors: Get Ready

Laser and Sunfish Fleet racing starts in ten days. Time to get those boats polished up and complete gear checks. Mark your Wednesday evenings starting May 28th for "Racing" and don't let other things creep in to conflict. Treat yourself. Make this your day of the week. Get an aerobic workout on the water while involved in some good healthy competitive sailing.

Afterward, join the group at Spags. Yes Olav - Doug will have the usual race quiz - and don't groan 'cause Doug has joined forces with Stephen Spielberg and UK Sails to create something visually exciting for us this year.

Driveway Work Scheduled Tuesday - Access to Club Limited

Weather permitting, a new apron to the Lansing Sailing Club driveway will be put in on Tuesday (May 20th). Members will not be able to drive onto the club property for a day while it cures. The driveway will be able to be used on Wednesday.

NOTE: if weather is a problem on Tuesday, the backup date for doing the driveway work is Wednesday - in which case the driveway can't be used until Thursday.

Don't Forget to Lock Up

One of our members found the sail shed open early Saturday morning. There wasn't anything broken - so hopefully nothing was taken. Please remember that the last person leaving the property needs to make sure everything is locked.

Summer "Sailstace" Coming June 21

Summer Sailstice - a global holiday celebrating sailing annually on June 21st, the solstice and the longest sailing day of the year - will donate $1 for every registered sailor to Seacology, a global non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of island ecosystems and cultures. Summer Sailstice is supported by donations from West Marine and private individuals. - For more info check out www.summersailstice.com and www.seacology.org.
