Crewing Seminar This Saturday (April 26)

Good weather is forecast for this Saturday's Crewing Seminar at the Lansing Sailing Club. The Seminar will begin at 1 PM and turn until 4 PM. There will be sessions for both inexperienced and experienced crew. For the inexperienced, this is a good opportunity to check out a great sport and see if it is something you want to pursue. For the experienced, there will be ideas on how you can become an even more valuable member of the crew.

Lightning Racing Begins Sunday

The long winter is behind us and racing season is here. Lightning racing begins this Sunday with the skipper's meeting at 12:30 and the frist of three scheduled races beginning at 1:00. At the lunch break, there will be a discussion about regatta (see next item) tasks and answers provided for any questions people might have about what they should be doing. Lightning skippers are asked by Fleet Captain George Siegle to sign up for the Fleet's Yahoo Group. Use this form to subscribe (or use the form on the LSC home page at www.lansingsailing.org):

Lightning Regatta May 3

Lightning skippers and crew should make sure the May 3rd Lake Lansing Lightning Regatta is on their calendars. If there is one event all our Lightning skippers should sail during the summer it is our own Regatta.

West Marine Presents Epoxy Demo April 24

The West Marine store in Lansing (SW corner of Saginaw and US 127) will be doing a demonstration of the "West System" epoxy system on Thursday, April 24th at 7 pm. If you want to attend, call the store and ask them to add your name to the 'sign up' sheet. While there, check out the items on sale. When you do business with the store, please let them know you are with the Lansing Sailing Club.

Tito Gonzalez Wins Lightning International

From e-USSAILING #117. Miami FL - April 12-19. After six days and nine races Tito Gonzalez (Chile) won his unprecedented Third World Championship by one point over Steve Haden (FL). Haden finished seven points ahead of the 2003 Masters World Champion Jim Crane (CT). Rounding out the top six places are Larry MacDonald (Canada) in forth, Bill Healy fifth and George Fisher sixth. The Lightning class is, consistently and by far, the largest multi-crew one design in the world in terms of number of fleets, active class members, and regatta participation. Lightning's are extremely technical & tactical to race due to a hard-chine hull and advanced sail plan. The Lightning class is, very arguably, the strongest level of competition in all of one design racing, as demonstrate this week in Miami.
