Don't Forget Work Party Saturday

The first work party of 2003 will be tomorrow (Saturday, March 29) from noon to about 4. The goal of this effort is to get ready for Docks In.

Team Racing Chalk Talk Tuesday at MSU

Lansing Sailing Club members are invited to participate in a chalk talk on Team Racing. Corey Schoenherr, of the MSU Sailing Club, will be giving the talk at next Tuesday's (April 1) 6:30 pm meeting of the MSU Sailing Club in Room 215 of IM West. Corey plans to cover such topics as Starts, Windward Leg Strategies, Downwind/Reaching Strategies, Mark Traps, Team Racing Rule Differences and Sticky Situations (and how to get out of them).

Team Racing is very interesting and exciting - involving strategies to block opposing team boats. Coming in first doesn't necessarily result in a team win. The key to winning is having the best total score of all the team boats. Corey will supply diagrams, but suggests participants bring something to take notes on and a rule book if you have one.

Ice is Off the Lake - Docks Go In April 12

Yesterday's balmy spring temperatures melted the last of the ice on Lake Lansing. Early in the week, open areas began to form. Wednesday's wind and mild temps enlarged these open areas significantly - and the job was finished off yesterday. So for those who may have been involved in pools, whoever had Thursday, March 28, 2003 was the winner.

Now on to Docks In and the start of sailing season on Lake Lansing. Don't forget, Docks In is Saturday, April 12 from 9 am to noon. Details will be coming soon to members concerning their assignments and how to handle schedule conflicts.

Race Committee Orientation April 16

Lansing Sailing Club members are urged to attend a Race Committee Orientation session on Wednesday Evening, April 16th from 6 pm to 8 pm. LSC has obtained some new equipment that is used to facilitate starting races - and we will go over the use of this equipment. For more details, check the LSC Web Site.

Crew Seminar Saturday, April 26

New and experienced crew are invited to attend a Crewing Seminar at the Lansing Sailing Club to be held Saturday, April 26 from 1 to 4 in the afternoon. Let anyone who might be interested in crewing on Lightnings this year know about the Seminar. There will be sessions for both experienced and new crew. For more details, check the LSC Web Site.

Rules Seminar at Portage Yacht Club April 6

Don't forget that Lansing sailors are invited to the Portage Yacht Club on Sunday, April 6th for a Rules Seminar. Portage Yacht Club is located Southeast of Pinckney at 8900 Dexter-Pinckney Road. There will be two sessions.
