Work Party Saturday

Weather permitting, LSC is still planning on a work party this coming Saturday from noon to 4. Anyone who can give some time will be welcomed. If there is a cancellation or postponement, information will be posted on the web site at www.lansingingclub.org. LSC members needing to make up a duty obligation will find this a good way to do so.

April 6 Rules Seminar at Portage Yacht Club

The Portage Yacht Club announces two instructional seminars on April 6th.
2:00-3:00 PM Racing Rules for Beginners
3:15-5:00 PM Using the Rules to Your Advantage

Both are free of charge and Lansing area sailors are invited to attend. These seminars will take place at the Portage Yacht Club, 8900 Dexter-Pinckney Road, Pinckney, MI 48169. See www.ms-pyc.com for a map.

Help Needed For Lightning Regatta

Hard to believe, but the Lake Lansing Lightning Regatta is only about six weeks away. May 3rd is going to be on us before we know it. Lightning Fleet Captain George Siegle is looking for volunteers to help with the regatta. Anyone able to do so is asked to contact George. George is looking for a volunteer to coordinate the overall Regatta as well as people who can help with registration, serve on the race committee as well as a number of odd jobs that need doing.

Lightning Owners Sign Up Please

Lansing Sailing Club Lightning owners are asked to sign up for the Fleet 387 yahoo group to facilitate communication and coordination. Do this by going to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LightingFleet387 and request a membership in the group. There is no cost for this - but the benefits will be many, including a crew database already out there.

Ice Boat Builders Unite

George Siegle reports that three Lansing area sailors will be starting to build DN ice boats starting in the next few weeks - and they are looking for others that want to join in. Paul Caterino, son of many-time Lightning Fleet champ Mike Caterino, Lake Lansing resident John Warbach, and George will be collaborating to build hulls, planks, and perhaps spars. The group is pooling resources such as tools, wood and hardware purchases, expertise, and construction space to help make the job go faster, cheaper and easier. Paul and George recently purchased a set of full-scale plans and visited Sarns Hardware, maker of DN parts, in St. Claire Shores to get ready for the project. The first step will be to construct a simple plywood jig to speed the shaping and building of the hulls. If any other Lansing Sailing Club sailors want to get involved, they should email George right away.
