MSU Women To Race at Navy March 8-9
A team of four MSU women will be racing in the Navy Women's Spring Regatta on March 8-9 (can you believe that is just 9 days from now?). MSU Sailing Team Captain Mary Vorel tells us that this is their first step in a campaign to go to the Women's Intercollegiate Nationals this year.

Former Lansing Sailing Club members Doug and Corrine Bohl are now living in Annapolis (Doug just recently took an Assistant Professor position at the Naval Academy). Doug's note to your editor earlier today said there is ice on the bay - so competitors will want to dress accordingly. Good sailing, MSU Women's Team.

Will Race 4 Ever Happen?
Race four of the America's Cup may be sailed today. After six postponements, they are running out of scheduled race days. The teams have agreed to race today, weather permitting. As of 4:00 PM Eastern, it looks like ENE winds of 13-18 knots - so it looks favorable.

ESPN2 coverage will be on a delayed basis - beginning at midnight tonight (Thursday).

Races are scheduled for Friday and Saturday (US time) with live coverage those days on ESPN2 beginning as usual at 7 PM. A decision will be made over the weekend on whether to race on Sunday (US time). ESPN2 coverage information can be found at www.jobsonsailing.com/tvsched.html in case the schedule changes.

Lake Lansing Regatta Dates Set
Lake Lansing 2003 Regatta dates are now set. Lightning sailors mark your calendars for Saturday, May 3. Laser sailors mark Saturday, June 14. Sunfish sailors mark Saturday, June 21.

Lake Lansing Dam Level to Stay High
Lake Lansing Property Owner Association President Don Kaufman passes on great news about efforts to keep the lake water level high. Ingham County Judge Collette ruled favorably on the Association's petition not to lower the levels of Lake Lansing during the summer. Hopefully this will help mitigate against the drop in the lake levels we experience during the sailing season. Under Judge Collette's ruling there will now be two lake levels. One, the highest permitted, will occur on March 1. There will be no further lowering by artificial means until November 15th when the low winter levels will take effect.

Now if we can only get some precipitation and fill the lake. While we have apparently had an average amount of snow, the snow density (or whatever technical term applies) so far does not convert into an average liquid equivalency. Mother nature has usually come through however and we look forward to being able to take advantage of this new ruling.
