Ice Boating is Back
With thick ice on Lake Lansing early this December, iceboating is making a re-appearance after a number of years in hibernation. There were eight ice boats out sailing the other day and the Lansing Sailing Club is looking at the possibility of establishing a DN-class fleet. Several ice boats are for sale in the area, or if you are handy, they make a great woodworking / boat building project. George Siegle, who currently co-owns an older DN, is about to start construction of a new hull. He is looking for anyone else who might be interested in building a boat. Substantial time and money can be saved when more than one hull is produced. Sharing of plans and tools, volume purchasing of materials, combining parts, orders to save on shipping or pick-up time, cutting multiple pieces of wood at once, and learning from each other are all benefits of working together. If we can get three or four people together, we may even be able to get one of the experts from Detroit or Gull Lake to help get us started. For more information about the DN, visit www.sailingsource.com/ice. If you are interested in teaming up to build boats, email George Siegle. Think ice! |

Holiday Gift Ideas
With the holidays just a few days away, you may want some gift ideas - or you may want to drop some hints. Remember, LSC's annual list of stocking stuffer suggestions is available. Look for it on the LSC web site home page. The list conveniently has price data as well as specific order information for most of the items. To give a big hint, print a copy of the list, put a check next to those items you'd like, add other items you may want and post your wish list on the refrig. |

Use the Club this Winter
There is a lot of winter activity on Lake Lansing. Ice boating, skating and fishing lead the list. Lansing Sailing Club members are reminded they are welcome to use the Club during the winter too. Just remember that the water has been turned off - so there are no sink or toilet facilities available. |
