Wednesday at Spags, then Dolan's for AC Action
The usual second Wednesday (December 11th) sailor gathering will be from 7-9 PM at Spagnoula's. Afterward anyone who wants to watch America's Cup Louis Vuitton Challenger Series racing is invited to Pat Dolan's. Spagnoula's is on the north side of Grand River east of Okemos between Cornell and Meridian Roads. Dolan's is on Lake Lansing - 1340 Hickory Island Drive.
 
Watch Sailing this Sunday on ESPN2
The 30-minute "International Year in Sailing" will air Sunday, December 8, 4:30 PM Eastern on ESPN2. In this show, Gary Jobson will feature the Star Worlds, College Nationals, Farr 40 Worlds, Hamilton Island Regatta, One Ton Cup, the Volvo Ocean Race, Clipper Race, Route to Rhum, Around Alone, Sail for America, Sausalito Cup, St. Francis Big Boat Series, America's Cup 2003 update plus the Rolex Yachtsman / Yachtswoman of the Year.
 
Stocking Stuffers
LSC's annual list of stocking stuffer suggestions is now available. Look for it on the LSC web site home page. Print off a copy, put a check next to those items you'd like, add other items and post your wish list on the refrig or other family kiosk.
 
Volvo Ocean Race Books and Videos
Nautor's Swan has produced a video "Volvo Ocean Race Story" charting the story of their participation in the first ever Volvo Ocean Race. This video has never seen before footage of the Amer Sports One and the all girl team, Amer Sports Too, and their crews over the 32,700 miles that were covered in approximately 10 months over 9 legs and 4 oceans. The footage shows the roller coaster of emotions that the crews endured, from exasperating total calm to the storms of the Southern Seas. Cost: $23 from Nautors.

"The Volvo Ocean Race Official Video" relives the challenge and excitement of the Volvo Ocean Race 2001-2002. Hosted by America's Cup winner and ESPN commentator Gary Jobson and ABC Sports' Paul Page, the video captures the danger, thrills, and remarkable achievements of the men and women who braved 32,700 miles of the world's most dangerous oceans on a quest to become Volvo Ocean Race champion. DVD is $24,95, Video is $19.94 from Nomad Press.

"Fightning Finish", by Gary Jobson, presents a unique history of the race that has changed the sport of open-ocean racing forever. It provides complete coverage of the race itself, from its start in Southampton, England in September 2001, to its finish in Kiel, Germany, in June 2002. All of the actiuon from every leg of the race is presented in full detail, combining images from the world's foremost sailing photographers. On sale for $44.95 from Nomad Press.

 
Louis Vuitton Semi-Final Coverage Begins Sunday
Coverage of the Semi-Finals of the Louis Vuitton Cup get underway this Sunday, December 8th at 9 PM on the Outdoor Life Network (December 9th in Aukland). Alingi will match up against Oracle while One World races against Prada. OLN will continue its coverage every evening from 9:00 to 11:00 until all the best of seven series are complete. OLN reairs coverage at 9:30 PM and 1:00 PM the next day.
 
Let's Go to Strictly Sail Chicago
Plan a get-away to Chicago. Strictly Sail Chicago is Thursday, January 30 through Sunday, February 2. Check out the theatre scene, do some shopping, enjoy some of the famous Chicago night life. Here's one idea: Head out for Chicago after work on Friday. Stay at one of the downtown hotels (several have rates under $100 / night. See Strictly Sail Saturday morning and afteroon while the family shops the Miracle Mile or checks out the museum campus. Check out Second City or other night life Saturday night. Have a leasurely brunch Sunday and head back to Lansing. You can also travel by AMTRAK. There is a train out of Jackson at 6 Friday evening, arriving in Chicago at 9. Catch the 11:15 out of Chicago on Sunday, arriving back in Jackson at 6 PM.
