Rear Commodore Chris Strugar-Fritsch has scheduled a work party for this Saturday, November 9th at 10:00 a.m. We will be covering the docks with tarps for winter protection, building one new dock section, and shading the yard light next to the main deck. If you have duties to make up or just want to help out, please join us. Bring hammers, wrenches, drills, etc. This is probably the last work party of the year. |

MSU Sailing Team Does Well at Western and Marquette
In recent collegiate action, the MSU Sailing Team did very well. In a women's event at Marquette University, MSU's Mary Vogel (Sophomore-Grand Rapids) with crew Jaime Ziegler (Junior-Traverse City) took first place in the "A" Division while Michelle Manente (Senior-Alpena) took fifth in the "B" Division. Crewing with Michelle were Sara Hickock (Senior-Alpena) and Michelle Cosier (Freshman-Petoskey). The overall result was a third place finish for MSU. Minnesota sent two teams of women while Marquette, Wisconsin-Madison, and Miami of Ohio sent one team each. The regatta was held at the Milwaukee YC inside the breakwall of Lake Michigan. At Western Michigan's Boudeman Memorial, sailed on Gull Lake, MSU scored a first in the "B" Division and a third in the "A" division for an overall second place finish. Driving the "B" boat was Eric Bombery (Junior-Kentwood) with crew Jill Byczek (Senior-River Forest, IL) and Tim Ryan (Freshman-Farmington Hills). The "A" boat was driven by Joe Rotonda and Rob Linden with Corey Schoenherr crewing. Michigan won the event which also included teams from Ohio U, Western, Hope, Ohio State, Indiana, Iowa and Kalamazoo College. In collegiate sailing, competition is typically held using Flying Juniors, a two person boat. Each school brings enough sailors to field two teams. One races in the "A" Division and one in the "B" Division. Rotations are scheduled so that after several races, the schools switch boats. In this way, with a full rotation, each school sails in each of the boats - reducing any advantage that might exist between boats. Nice going Sparton sailors!!! |

Lost and Found
Rear Commodore Chris Strugar-Fritsch tells us that Lost and found items have been set in the men’s and women’s rooms with labels to identify unclaimed stuff. If you are missing anything, please check out these items and take them before docks-in next spring. Anything that is unclaimed at docks-in will be thrown out. |

MSU Sailing Team Says "Thanks LSC"
The Lansing Sailing Club received an enormous thank from the MSU Sailing Team. Sixteen LSC volunteers provided race management for the MSU Cedarfest Regatta held October 12-13. Mike Moody served as Principal Race Officer. Doug Carlson and Pat Dolan were in one Safety Boat while Terry Kleiman provided his Sea Ray as a second Safety Boat and was joined in the boat by Olav Messerschmidt and Doug Bohl. On the Committee Boat, LSC volunteers served as timers, recorders, video recorders, flag handlers, line spotters and communicators. These volunteers included Sheila Troxel, Blaine Severin, Gil Chesbro, Sandy Bryson, Bob Miller, Joanne Princinsky, Matt Dahline, Ken Knight, Jim Newtown and Alanna Harvey. The regatta included twelve collegiate teams including teams from Michigan State, Hope, Western Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Indiana and Purdue. Northwestern won the event. MSU had two teams, finishing fourth and eighth. |

Louis Vuitton Cup Resumes November 11
The second round robin of the Louis Vuitton Cup is now complete. Nine teams are challenging for the right to face New Zealand for the America's Cup. One has now been eliminated. Mascalzone Latino (the Italian Rascals) goes home. The eight remaining teams begin the quarter final round of competition November 11th (Eastern time). In this round two teams face off in a best of 7 series. In the top four teams, Alingi has chosen to face Prada - leaving One World to face Oracle. In the other group, Victory chose Le Defi - with GBR left to face Stars and Stripes. The races are being carried in the 9-11pm prime time slot by the Outdoor Life Network. The top four teams seem very closely matched with the Swiss team Alingi having a slight edge followed by the Italian Prada and US teams One World and Oracle. Dennis Connor's Stars and Stripes is struggling along with the teams from Great Britain (GBR Challenge) and Sweden (Victory Challenge). Bringing up the rear is the French team Le Defi Areva. |
