Siegle Wins Lightning Championship
It was an exciting conclusion to one of the best seasons of racing the Lansing Sailing Club has had. George Siegle, with Ann Siegle in the front of the boat and Gil Chesbro in the middle, won all three races yesterday (Sunday, October 20) and became the season champion. George started the day in second place and needed three wins to become champion. He won the first two races, but was trailing in the third and it looked like a second place season finish for the second year in a row. Mike Moody was leading in the third race when the unexpected happened - a capsize. Just that quickly, "Fins" sailed by and went on to their third win and the championship. Anna Hamilton drove "Wind Dancer" in the third race with Pat Dolan and Stacey Kotecki crewing. Anna sailed very well and ended up with a second place finish. In the second race, Stacey Kotecki took the "Wind Dancer" helm and also sailed well to place fourth. Blaine Severin sailed with Julie Pierce and John LeFevre, turning in a third place and two fourth place finishes. Scott Watkins and Catherine Picton doublehanded Terry Kleiman's boat in the first two races - and got Terry on board for the third race. Mike Moody finishes second for the season, and has sailed an excellent 2002 campaign. Ken Knight and Kim Knight were aboard "Moody's Booty" yesterday for the two second place finishes and the capsize. They have also been the primary crew all season for Mike. You can get the complete season results directly from the Scoring Guy or by following links after clicking "Race Results" on the LSC Web Site. |

Laser Frost Biting
Mike Moody reminds us that there is Laser racing on Sundays at Crescent Sail Yacht Club for those ready to do some frost biting. The Crescent folks are willing to let Lansingites keep their boats at Crescent at no charge for the duration of the frost biting season. Racing is informal - no committee, on your honor for over on the starts and no results kept. Mike says that "last year, it was at least in the 50's every Sunday until a week before Christmas and we had a fun time." Racing begins about noon. Contact Mike if you want to go. It may be possible to share rides, double up boats on trailers, or caravan. |

Broken Pickets Replaced
Rear Commodore Chris Strugar-Fritsch passes on a hearty thank you to Terry Klieman and Tom Rassmussen for repairing/replacing the broken pickets in the fence. The repair is so well done you can’t tell it was ever damaged. Also, a thank you to Larry Koster for taking down the sea gull preventers and storing them for the winter. Tom, Terry and Larry are among our most generous members with their time and talents and do so many things without being asked. They really keep things running smoothly. |

Louis Vuitton Cup Resumes
For those that have access to the Outdoor Life Network, Louis Vuitton Cup racing resumes this evening (Monday, October 21st) from 9 PM to 11 PM with a make up race from the first round robin. On Tuesday evening, prime time coverage (9-11 PM) of the second round robin begins. One World, a US boat, was undefeated in the first round robin while Alingi, the Swiss boat, had only one loss. These two boats are the front runners at this time. The second round robin will result in one of the nine boats being eliminated while the remaining eight boats continue in their quest to become the challenger against the reigning America's Cup champion: New Zealand. |
