Siegle Takes Two, Moody One
With three Lightning race days to go in the 2002 season, George Siegle is making a bid to unseat Mike Moody atop the leader board. Last Sunday (Sep 29), George had two first place finishes. Gil Chesbro was back in "Fins" along with Ann Siegle. The "Fins" crew took second in the third race. Mike Moody, sailing with Ken Knight and Jim Newtown, had a first and two second place finishes.

It was another perfect fall day with winds of 10-15 generally from the Southwest. With the usual inland lake twenty to thirty degree wind shifts, there were plenty of opportunities for boats that were able to get leverage at the right time. As usual, it was also important to find more wind. These conditions provided plenty of lead changes as well as position changes among all the boats in each race.

The "Flying Pigasus" crew alternated helmsmen each race. John LeFevre drove the first race, Tom Rasmussen the second and Blaine Severin the third. Their finishes were 5th, 4th and 5th. Larry Koster, Maribeth Fletcher and Jim Fletcher have begun to jell as a crew - particularly with regard to spinnaker work. They were 4th, 5th and 4th - just missing third place in the final race. Pat Dolan, sailing "Wind Dancer" with Bob Miller and Bob Hill, took three third place finishes.

You can get the complete season results directly from the Scoring Guy or by following links after clicking "Race Results" on the LSC Web Site.

Work Party Wednesday, October 9
LSC members that are in a position to help out Wednesday evening, October 9 from 6:00 to 7:30 are asked to mark their schedule for a Work Party. We will be working on racks and a list of other items that need attention yet this fall before docks out. If you can participate, save time afterward to go for Spags pasta special and tall tales.

Lightning Race Schedule Changes October 13
Attention Lightning skippers and crew. Please take note of a schedule change for racing on Sunday, October 13. The skipper's meeting will be at 1:30 (instead of 12:30) and racing will begin at 2:00 (instead of 1:00). This change is being made so that LSC volunteers can finish up their Race Committee work for the MSU Collegiate Cedarfest Regatta. There is no change in the schedule for racing on October 6 or October 20.

Dolan Laser and Lightning For Sale
Pat Dolan has his Lightning, "Wind Dancer", for sale as well as his Laser. Pat says a "new" Laser is on its way. He bought one of the Lasers being used at the Laser World Championship. If he sells his Lightning, Pat says he will be ordering a new one from Nickels Boat Works.

Both boats are in excellent condition. Pat is asking $12,900 for "Wind Dancer", a 2000 boat, and $2,500 for his 1995 Laser.

OLN Louis Vuitton Cup Coverage
For those of you with access to the Outdoor Life Network, coverage of the Louis Vuitton Cup is in the 9-11 PM prime time slot each race day. Remember that we are 15 hours behind Aukland - so a race starting at noon on the Hauraki Gulf is on at 9 PM the previous day, Lansing time. Look for the races on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings - with Friday evening a possibility where weather conditions force a postponement.

OLN is still trying to get some of its act together - the exact TV schedule being one of the elusive pieces. As best we can figure it out after the first two days is that coverage is almost live in the 9-11 PM time slot (there is a short delay). Then, the show is repeated at midnight, 9:30 AM and 1:00 PM the next day.

For more info check out the Outdoor Life Network web site.

More Club Improvements: Windbreak, Women's Room
Improvements continue at the Lansing Sailing Club. The latest are a windbreak for the west side of the club house and a dressing area for the womens room.

The windbreak is simple, but effective and easy to install. It consists of two tarps that hang on grommets from a beam on the west side of the club house. Hooks are installed near the door to the womens room to anchor that end of the tarp. Bungees are used to anchor the middle and other end. About five minutes is all it takes for installation - or to put it away. The tarps are stored on the shelf above the refrig along with instructions.

The dressing area in the womens room is also simple: two shower curtains on a rod. This will provide a little more privacy when the door is opened.
