Sunfish Get Ready to Close Season
With one more Wednesday of racing for the Sunfish, the contestants are putting their best effort forward to try and break through or hold on - depending on where they stand. Gil Chesbro appeared to pick up a little ground on John Fishbeck in the race for first place. Both had two first place finishes in tonight's racing, but Gil had a 2nd and 3rd against Johns 4th and a DSQ. Doug Bohl brought able crew member Bailey along tonight and they managed two second place finishes, a third and a fifth. Sandy Bryson had a second and a third while Dave Vietti accounted for the remaining third place finish in the four races. Twelve Laser Racers Go At It
There were twelve Lasers on the water Wednesday evening (August 28th), all enjoying another warm evening with a nice breeze. There are two more Wednesday evenings of racing for the Lasers. This time, a different sailor took the first place finish in each race, with Mike Moody, George Siegle, Doug Carlson and Olav Messerschmidt sharing the honors. We welcomed another newcomer. Last week the new sailor was Dave MacKenzie. This week it was Eric Nelson. Eric is a junior at MSU, on the MSU racing team, and will be joining us for the last three race days of the season. Eric acquitted himself well in a borrowed boat and makeshift rig sailing in an unfamiliar class. In his second night with the group, Dave is showing good progress. Time in the boat will make both excellent sailors. Regattas Coming Up
There are some excellent regattas coming up for Lightnings, Sunfish and Lasers. Just because the Laser and Sunfish racing on Lake Lansing is coming to an end doesn't mean you can't continue racing. Front Gate Work Party September 7th
With the new driveway in place, the new gate can now be installed. Rear Commodore Chris Strugar-Fritsch is putting out a call for assistance from members that can be available from 9 AM until early afternoon on Saturday, September 7th. This is a good way for members to complete their deck duty if they haven't done one yet or if they have one to make up. Members who can help should contact Chris so he can coordinate tools, etc. |

Racks Under Construction
Members who have been to the club recently have probably noticed some construction activity just north of the boat launch ramp. Under the able leadership of Gil Chesbro and Sandy Bryson, the long awaited racks are now being built. There has been a delay while discussions were held with the Township to make sure all the "T's" were crossed and "I's" dotted. Step one was to lay out the area in which the first racks will be located. Step two was to construct a template for the framework that will separate each bay. Step three will be next Tuesday evening at 6:00. Come out and join in the work party if you are available. |

A New Refrig at LSC
Larry Koster has recently arranged the purchase and installation of a new refrig at the Lansing Sailing Club. Larry also primed and painted the refrigerator area before the new unit was installed. The old refrig couldn't be fixed - so it is on the way to the great ice box hunting ground in the sky. While doing this project, Larry ran into an application of the "Measure twice, cut once" rule. Here is the story in Larry's words: "Late Sunday afternoon, Pat Dolan and Mike Moody assisted me in getting the old refrigerator out of the LSC kitchen - but to do so we had to remove its two doors. Before making arrangements last Friday to put a deposit on the replacement refrigerator, I had measured to make sure the new unit would slide into the 30 inch space between the corner of the kitchen counter and the door frame. However, with the problem we had removing the old refrigerator in mind, before making full payment, I again measured the depth and width of the replacement refrigerator, as I had picked the bigger of the 2 units in the same price range. I am pleased to report that there was no problem. G & W Maytag delivered the replacement unit this morning and it squeezed into its new home without having to remove its doors, though it is a wider unit." In the words of our Commodore, Ann Siegle, "Thanks Larry, without you, this club would not be nearly as nice of a place! You're always there to prime and paint, or fix this or that, and you do it with superb perfection and attention to detail!" |
