Eleven Sunfish in Tight Competition
There were four different winners in Sunfish Fleet Racing Wednesday (August 7). With eleven Sunfish sailors on the water, competition was tough. Gil Chesbro won the first race and tossed in a couple of third place finishes for a good night. The second race was won by John Fishbeck. John scores second place finishes in the other three races. Jim Fletcher won race 3 and added a couple of thirds and a fourth. In the last race it was Doug Bohl leading the pack. Doug also had a second place finish and was awarded a third place finish (his average for the night) when he stopped to assist a laser sailor who was having difficulty righting a capsized boat. Carlsen Leads Lasers With Three Bullets
There were ten Laser sailors competing last night (Wednesday, August 7) - another great turnout on a beautiful evening for sailing. With 5 evenings of racing left in the season, it is possible that twelve sailors could qualify for trophies. Participation has been excellent this year - and we continue to have fabulous weather. Doug Carlson led the way with three first place finishes. Doug is also leading the season standings.

Mike Moody won the remaining race and is close behind Carlson in the season standings. George Siegle continued his excellent racing with three second place finishes and is in a tight race with Olav Messerschmidt for third place this season.

Bob Miller has raced all forty races this season and is the leader in that regard. For full details and season standings, check the link at www.lansingsailing.org.

Women's Night A Success
By Ann Siegle
Five women came out to sail for Women's night (AKA Ladies Night). Joanne Princinsky, Maribeth Fletcher, Alanna and Laura Harvey joined Commodore Ann Siegle for the evening. The wind was terrific, the skies sunny, and several men were also out sailing. Maribeth and Laura tried out Lasers, while Ann tried out Maribeth's Sunfish. The women finished with sorbet and sparkling lemonade as the sun set.

Thanks to all that participated, and we'll see the rest of you next year for Womens' sailing night!

Improvements Continue at LSC
Improvements continue at LSC under the leadership of Rear Commodore Chris Strugar-Fritsch and Commodore Ann Siegle. With approvals received from Township and DEQ officials, there is now a lot of activity. The most recent changes include a newly surfaced drive and replacement of sand in the beach area.

Next Tuesday evening at 6:30, Gil Chesbro will be leading a work party to construct new racks. Helping hands are welcome. New member Paula White has generously donated a bolt of sailboat fabric and will be helping Ann Siegle install privacy curtains for the women's locker room.
