The Fishbeck is Back
It was a great evening on the water yesterday with a warm temp, pleasant breezes and lots of sails. After sitting out all of 2001 with broken this and that from a motorcycle accident, John Fishbeck is clearly back. He led the Sunfish sailors last night with three wins in four races. Gil Chesbro won the other race. Despite John's dominance last night, Sunfish racing has been very competitive this year - and this Saturday's Sunfish Regatta should be wide open. Carlson Deathrolls - Still Wins 3
Doug Carlson had won the first two races of the evening, but found himself in second place in the third race behind Mike Moody. The formula to go fast downwind is to get forward in the boat, creating less wetted surface, and heeling the boat to windward so the sail is up in the air. However, being in this position also increases the potential for the dreaded deathroll - a capsize to windward. With the amount of energy Doug puts into his sailing (and from the heading) you can guess what happened - everyone waved as they passed Doug who was trying to unstick his mast top from the bottom of the lake. Mike went on to win race three, but Doug came back to capture first place in race four. Click on "Race Results from the LSC Web Site for detailed results of last nights Laser racing and standings. |

Take Care Using the Safety and Committee Boats
The motor on the Safety Boat is struggling and will be going in for repairs. As most of you probably know, the motors on our boats are water cooled. Water MUST run through the engine in order to keep it from overheating. This means that the motors need to be lowered into the water before starting them. Otherwise, no water can be pumped through the engine. In addition, please check to see that a stream of water is coming out of the engine once it is started. If the stream of water is not coming out - please shut off the engine right away or it will overheat and the repair bill will be immense. Commodore Ann Siegle and others are working on a way to provide training for those of us that need some instruction in how to care for and use the boats/motors. In the meantime, please don't use the boats if you are unsure how to determine if there is sufficient oil in the engine, whether the water pump is running, etc. Help keep dues down by taking good care of the boats and motors. |

LSC Burgees Are In
Ed Clarke tells us that the LSC Burgees are now in. Neil Harrison is taking responsibility for handing them out. They are great looking. Those who ordered the burgees can usually find Neil at the Club on Wednesday evening and on Sunday afternoon. You can also make arrangements to pick up your burgee from Neil by emailing him. |
