Race Committee Orientation Wednesday
There will be an orientation for Race Committees Wednesday, April 17 from 6:30 to 8:00 at LSC. We will review the new starting sequence (new in 2001), go over the Race Committee checklist, discuss courses that will be used in 2002, look at some new equipment, and answer questions. If you are new to Race Committee work - or inexperienced - this session is definitely for you. The "Old Salts" will find lots of nuggets too. See you there.

Lightning Racing Begins Sunday
Lightning Racing begins this Sunday. If you need help getting your boat ready or need crew for Sunday, give Pat Dolan a call. Let's have a lot of Lightnings on the starting line Sunday for this first day of racing.

Discover Racing for Adults Begins May 6
Tell your friends and neighbors about this class. If anyone has ever wondered what it would be like to do some sailboat racing, LSC is offering just the class through Community Education. It starts Monday evening, May 6 and continues every Monday evening through June 10 (except Memorial Day). The great thing about this class is that it is held on the water and participants get to serve as crew. This is the third year for this class and it has received very high marks from past participants. Those interested should sign up through Haslett Recreation & Arts 339-2665 or East Lansing Rec & Arts 337-4442 or www.elra.org.

Also tell your friends and neightbors about our Junior Learn to Sail Class for youth ages 10 to 18. This class is also offered through Community Education. It begins June 17 and runs for five Monday evenings. Twenty-two juniors went through last year's class.

"Break the Ice" Party Coming May 11
It's going to be the social event of the season. The Lansing Sailing Club is sponsoring a "Break the Ice" Party on Saturday, May 11 from 5-9 PM. Come join us for an evening of tropical drinks, dinner by tiki torch lights and island festivities at Pat and Christine Dolan's house 1340 Hickory Island Drive, just down the street from the club. Wear your best island fashions (prize for the loudest Island shirt). We'll have ice-breaker activities and prizes designed to get everyone to know one another outside of sailing. Bring your spouse or significant other, an Island attitude, a dish to pass and alcoholic beverages if you desire. Mixers and pop will be provided. Cocktails are from 5-6 PM with lawn games. Dinner is at 6 PM. We'll have dancing to steel band, reggae, Jimmy Buffet and Beach Boys music - and sunset rides on the Dolan's pontoon boat. RSVP information will soon be on the club's web site at www.lansingsailing.org.

The Docks Are In!
Thanks to all of our members attending the Docks in or the pre-work parties leading up to Docks In. The club's power boats were cleaned and made shipshape for the season. A special thank you to all of our board members who worked hard to put this event on.

Make up duties are available if you missed the event, please contact Chris Strugar-Fritsch for details. Members enjoyed sunshine and pleasant spring temperatures as the docks were put in. With the sudden onset of summer weather, the club is ready for sailing. Racing begins this weekend, Sunday, April 21st at 1pm.

Your new club phone rosters and membership cards are at the club if you did not pick them up at Docks In. Please pick these items up from the Commodore's mailbox in the kitchen.

Still Time to Buy a LSC Burgee
An LSC Burgee was selected by members at Docks In - and what a great design it is. Two dozen have already been ordered. You'll want one too. Cost is $14.95. Contact Ed Clarke if you want one. He needs to know in the next week because the order needs to go in. We'll have the new burgee displayed soon on the web site at www.lansingsailing.org.
