Work Party This Saturday
Don't forget the Work Party at the Lansing Sailing Club this Saturday from Noon to 4. Rear Commodore Chris Strugar-Fritsch has several projects lined up in building dock sections, hanging new gates (if we can get gravel/grading work done), moving picnic tables and otherwise getting ready for dock's in. If a sailing club member needs to make up a duty obligation, this is a good way to do so. Note: Saturday, April 7 is being held as an alternate date if the weather is bad. |

North U Advanced Racing Excellent
Pat Dolan just returned from Captiva Island in Florida where he was a student in the North U Advanced Offshore Racing Class last week. He reports the weather was fabulous, with good wind every day. The primary instructor, three time J-105 world champion Todd Berman, was excellent. Vladimer "Kuli" Kulinichenko, who several LSC members have come to know from taking this class in previous years, was the instructor on Pat's boat. "We learned a lot and our boat was very successful, winning the last day regatta" reports Dolan. Among the skills Pat's boat worked on was how to escape from a pin when going to windward. The approach was to slow the boat and pinch as necessary to position the bow immediately behind the leeward corner of the opposing boat's transom. Then, a quick tack usually enables you to break through the blanket of bad air and get your nose out in front where you are in a controlling lee bow position. |

16 Days to Docks In
With the recent cold temperatures, it may be hard to believe - but Docks-In is just around the corner. Saturday, April 13th is the day (9 AM to Noon). Lansing Sailing Club members should check their recent "Mainsheet" for assignment information. Members should contact Rear Commodore Chris Strugar-Fritsch for an alternate assignment if a schedule conflict prevents participation on the 13th. |

Volvo 60's Arrive in Miami
(Editors Note: e-Sheet is following Amer Sports Too in the Volvo Ocean Race) The volvo 60's have begun arriving in Miami. Assa Abloy passed Illbrook just before the finish to take first place on this leg. Illbrook had shredded its spinnaker on a gybe several days ago and was not able to hold off Assa Abloy with a smaller replacement. The women of Amer Too are in a close race with Djuice that should be exciting right to the end. They should finish in the 24 to 36 hours depending on wind and current conditions. For more information including email, audio and video from the boats, check in at www.volvooceanrace.org or www.nautorchallenge.com. |
