Long Term Planning Effort Underway
The Lansing Sailing Club has launched a long range planning effort. George Siegle, leader of this endeavor, recently held an initial meeting of the planning group. Discussion centered around first defining the current situation, then idenfying major areas of concern. High on everyone's list was to study how the grounds can be better utilized, standing water problems resolved, and the feasability of a new clubhouse. Areas for attention were divided into five categories and subgroups were designated to develop specifics. Anyone wishing to participate in this effort is welcome. Contact Chairperson George Siegle for information on how to become involved.

Amer Too Gets Ready for Restart of Volvo Ocean Race
(Editors Note: e-Sheet is following Amer Sports Too in the Volvo Ocean Race)
This coming Saturday, March 9th, the Volvo Ocean Racers will again set to sea. Leg 5, from Rio de Janeiro to Miami, is 4450 nautical miles and about 20 days of sailing.

After the grueling Leg 4 Southern Ocean, Amer Sports Too skipper Lisa McDonald has been holidaying on a Brazilian Beach, navigator Miranda Merron was in England and on-board meteorologist Willemien van Hoeve in Ireland. They come together now, along with watch captains Bouwe Bekking, Katie Pettibone and Emma Westmacott to do the detailed planning.

Meanwhile, boat builders and technicians have been inspecting every square centimeter of Amer Sports Too's hull, all the electrical and electronic cable and every item of electronic equipment. Engineers are servicing the main engine and generator. Keel and rudder have been inspected for damage (none found) and the mast and rigging are under the microscope. Sails are being serviced and repaired.

By Saturday all will be ready for the restart. Miami, here they come.
