Anyone interested in joining the crew should contact Pat Dolan, Crew Coordinator, by using the Contact Us page of the Lansing Sailing Club Web Site. Crew members will need to commit to a practice day on May 30th as well as racing May 31st through June 2nd. There will be a total of 6 to 8 in the crew, sailing a Tartan Ten (about a 36 foot boat). Kyrsten Hill is New LSC Member The Lansing Sailing Club announces that Kyrsten Hill has become an Associate Member. Kyrsten began racing with Lightning skippers last summer and became a competent and positive addition to the crews she sailed with. Welcome aboard Kyrsten. We hope you will join in some of the sailing/racing activites for women in the Club. Since these are family memberships we hope your oldest son will want to participate in our Junior Sailing activities. We are looking forward to seeing you and your family at the Club even more this year than last. Under the leadership of Commodore Ann Siegle, Lansing Sailing Club members are working hard to make 2002 a fabulous year of sailing. |

Membership Opportunities at LSC E-Sheet readers who are not Lansing Sailing Club members but have an interest in sailing and racing may want to consider joining - or may have friends that are so inclined. There are Associate Memberships available to qualified applicants for $120 per year (there are also duty obligations such as helping put docks in in the Spring). An Associate Membership entitles a family to participate in Club activities, including use of Club sailboats. There are also Regular Memberships available for persons who own Lightnings, Lasers or Sunfish (currently there is no space available for other kinds of sailboats). To request more information, contact the Membership Director by using the Contact Us page of the Lansing Sailing Club Web Site |

Amer Too in Iceberg Country (Editors Note: e-Sheet is following Amer Sports Too in the Volvo Ocean Race) Late Breaking News From Team SEB: This morning, Gunnar Krantz's SEB reported their carbon rig had failed. Though no one is physically hurt this is a painful blow to the 12 professional sailors on board. The mast broke just above the boom. Meanwhile, Emma Westmacott, 33 year old watch captain on Amer Too reports by email "Icebergs ...burgers...appeared in plenty this morning. Amazing there were none out last night. We passed by two burgers today to leeward and learned that growlers hang there too. Scary, very scary. We saw nothing last night and had two hours today of growler after growler. "This is what I am doing this for: big seas, big breeze, big enough sails, fast speeds, and our share of wipe outs (wouldn’t be going hard if that did not happen). "Crashing along with heart in mouth, adrenalin pumping as the boat surges down wave after wave. We have had three days of awesome sailing with average speeds of 15-20 knots - great stuff." Steve Hayles, sailing on Tyco, had a different view. His most recent email admonishes "can the wives and girlfriends please take note that when we start talking about coming back down here in four years time that we should be locked away until we come to our senses." For more information including email, audio and video from the boats, check in at www.volveooceanrace.org. |
