LSC Member Wednesday Coral Gables Gathering
Lansing Sailing Club members will gather this Wednesday, February 6th, 7:00 PM at Coral Gables in East Lansing for an evening of sailing conversation. Lightning and Sunfish Fleet meetings will also be held beginning at 8:00 PM. Dinner and/or drinks can be ordered off the menu (be prepared to pay the Treasurer by cash or check before you leave as all costs will be put on one tab). Members will also be able to sign up for Race Committee Duty with Vice-Commodore Mike Moody - so bring your calendars.

Strictly Sail Chicago a Hit
Several Lansing Sailors attended Strictly Sail Chicago over the weekend and gave the show high marks. There were more sailboats on display than ever before, lots of gear to look at and many seminars to choose from. Sessions by North University's Lou Carretero on Upwind and Downwind racing were highly entertaining and full of tips. ESPN's Gary Jobson brought some exiting film and made an excellent presentation. Gary predicts the Kiwi team will not be able to hold off the America's Cup challengers. He picks the Swiss team (a bunch of the old New Zealand team that jumped ship) and Dennis Conner's Stars and Stripes team to be in the Challenger finals. The Challenger series begins this fall in Auckland. Put Strictly Sail Chicago on your to do list for next year.

Trailer Being Sought
Through the LSC's Web Site (www.lansingsailing.org), Gene Turchin tells us he is looking for a sailboat trailer. The trailer is for a fin keel boat 27 feet or larger, displacement 7000 lbs. If you know anyone that can help Gene, email him at genenm@riolink.com or call 505-744-4307.

Amer Too Women Headed for Rio
(Editors Note: e-Sheet is following Amer Sports Too in the Volvo Ocean Race)
The women of Amer Too are headed for Rio on Leg 4 of the Volvo Round the World Ocean Race. A week into this leg, they find themselves in last place - trailing the leader by 175 miles. Trouble with their ballast system right after the Auckland restart put them behind the eight ball. There are still more than two weeks of sailing in this leg - one of which is in the dangerous Southern Ocean. Iceberg watch now becomes critical. For more information including email, audio and video from the boats, check in at www.volveooceanrace.org.
