Moody Wins Paw Paw Laser Regatta
Mike Moody says he can now die a happy man! For the first time
in 11 years of competition sailboat racing, Mike won a regatta.
It happened at Paw Paw Lake, near Coloma, Michigan. There were
8 boats that shared the course with a fleet of Stars. Mike recorded
finishes of 1,2,3,2,1,1,1 - and took home the first place trophy.
"It took 11 years but I got to see the view from the front
of the fleet for the almost the whole regatta" said an
excited Moody. A close second was Chris Marzke, former Lansing
Sailing Club member. Helio Vogel, who often crews on Lightnings
in Lake Lansing racing was there and recorded 3 third place
finishes. Nice work for having limited time in the Laser.
Mike reported that "a puffy northerly kept us on our
toes as the shifts were severe. Temps were in the 50's but
the sunshine helped ward off the chill." Mike also noted
that there were several high school age participants that
performed well. This kind of youth involvement will be great
for the future of the Laser class. |

Lansing Lightning Regatta - 2001 a Success
The 2001 Lake Lansing Lightning Regatta was a huge success with
13 boats participating, including 6 from out of town. The new
one-day format seemed to help. Congratulations to event chairperson
Blaine Severin and his entire team. Also thanks to the Race
Committee for an excellent job in very difficult conditions.
Ryan Flack won the event, but Lansing Sailors did well. Pat
Dolan and Mike Moody tied for third, but Dolan gets the official
nod under tiebreaker rules. Click on the title for final standings.
